Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium belonging to the Bifidobacterium genus. This microaerophilic organism is considered one of the earliest colonizers of the human gut. On standard anaerobic culture media, Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum forms white, glossy, and raised colonies. The strain exhibits high resistance to stomach acid and bile, indicating its ability to survive passage through the gastrointestinal tract and establish itself in the lower small intestine and colon. As a non-pathogenic bacterium, it is commonly added to food products, where its production of lactic acid helps inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria.
Our proprietary strain, Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum BL-G301 was isolated from the feces of healthy adolescents in the Wenchuan area of Sichuan Province, China. This strain demonstrates a strong adhesion ability to intestinal epithelial cells. Bifidobacterium is known to enhance immune function and maintain gut microbiota balance.
