Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis is a Gram-positive anaerobic rod-shaped bacterium which can be found in the large intestines of most mammals, including humans. Bifidobacterium animalis include two sub-species:
Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. animalis (B.animalis) and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis(B.lactis) were previously described as two distinct species. Bifidobacterium animalis (include B.animalis and B.lactis) is the most popular used probiotic bacteria belongs to Bifidobacterium spp, It has the dominated characters of this genus: They colonizes the human gastrointestinal tract represents up to 90% of the bacteria of an infant's GI tract, but then step by step reduce to 3% level along with the age as other enteric bacteria such as Bacteroides and Eubacterium begin to dominate.
