DESCRIPTION:

BS-GA28 powder is a probiotic additive, containing the Bacillus subtilis BS-GA28 and also a dilution carrier such as the glucose anhydrous etc. The Bacillus subtilis BS-GA28 is a bacteria with the below character:

Gram-positive, Catalase-positive, with the spore form, Rod-shaped bacteria, metabolism prefer mesophilic temperature and aerobic condition. It is widely found in the environment and also the animal as well the human being bodies. The spore formed Bacillus spp are with good resistant to the environment temperature, it can be long time stored in temperature around 60ºC and even can survive 20minutes in temperature above 120ºC when the spore form in stable condition, but the animal/human gastric and water or humidity etc can help to transfer the bacteria from spore form to active status. The Bacillus bacteria is using its vegetable cell which composed of peptidoglycan to coordinate this inactive/active metabolism. 

Bacillus subtilis is studied and used for long time, even much earlier than antibiotic discovery, it was regarded as the alternative medicine in a period for bacteria treatment, from the summarized study results, the metabolism of the Bacillus subtilis is mainly as:

 

  •   Oxygen consumption by aerobic metabolism to help to boost the other anaerobic bacteria especially the friendly lactic acid bacteria to grow up, the further metabolism from the lactic acid bacteria can also produce more organic acid to compete and inhibit the pathogens growing up.

SAFETY CONCERNS:

The application of Bacillus spp is still with a little bit disputes even it is used for long time and seemed with good application condition and also more good application results. The main concerns are with:

 
  1. Antibiotic and antibiotic resistance.
Not like the other friendly lactic acid bacteria, the DNA analysis studies showed that there is some risks for the mobile plasmids from the Bacillus spp to transfer the antibiotic resistance to other microbes, especially the Coccus spp and Coliforms.
 
  1. Bacillus subtilis is not the host native microbes, but they can participate the metabolism even to the immunity effectiveness, some not to known whether this is good or not, in case when the host body immunity in very poor condition. 
 
  1. Bacillus spp is not easy to be sterilized, and there are mass Bacillus spp exsit in the environment, but not all the Bacillus spp are showed the probiotic character, the production control for this Bacillus spp must be very cautious to avoid the cross-contamination. 
 
  1. Due to some special enzyme and antibody production abilities, some Bacillus spp might be used as the genetically engineered bacteria, if used as role of probiotic to the hosts, must ensure it is none-GMO status. 

While in the global market, there is also the trend to introduce Bacillus spp into the dietary supplements or healthcare application, Bacillus spp has been granted QPS (Qualified Presumption of Safety) status by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) for certain applications in animal feeds and for vitamin K2 production for foods and supplements consumed by humans. In China, CFDA does not approve this strain to be free used in human foods but some of the OTC drugs approved are with Bacillus subtilis, in China, this strain is mainly approved for animal health or animal feed application whatever by the direct-fed microbes or via their metabolism mechanism to benefits the animals or environments.
